Gary Dobson and David Norris deny the murder of Lawrence who was stabbed to death in a south London street. The murder of Lawrence in Eltham, south-east London, is one of the most high-profile unsolved murders in Britain. The death caused widespread soul-searching in Britain over racism in the capital's police force. The police, in their initial investigation, were accused of being either inept or indifferent, this led to an official report into the police, sanctioned by the government that said that the police in this country were 'institutionally racist'.? ? The report had 70 recommendations including calls for more police from different ethnic groups and attempts properly to tackle racist attitudes among officers.
